Busy Street

Who We Are

flipside CIC is a Community Interest Company based in Hertfordshire, dedicated to helping people rebuild their lives after facing life's toughest challenges - homelessness, addiction, long-term unemployment, and other barriers to meaningful work.

Our Philosophy: Trust, Belief, and Humanity

We see worth and potential in every person. Our work is nurturing but practical, focused on empowering people to reclaim their agency, rebuild confidence, and take their place in society with dignity.

Founded on Real Transformation

flipside was born from witnessing genuine transformation. When our founder Jo Brooker hired David from homelessness at C2C Group, his journey from surviving on the streets to professional success proved that with the right support, every story truly has a flipside. Now we're scaling that proven approach across Hertfordshire.

Our Approach

Step-by-Step Transformation

Phase 1: Stabilisation and Trust

Working with specialist partners, we ensure people access housing, addiction recovery, mental health services, and wellbeing support. We don't rush; we wait until people are ready.

Phase 2: Skills and Confidence

Financial literacy, digital inclusion, pre-employment skills, professional confidence building, and interview preparation.

Phase 3: Employment Pathway

Professional clothing support, workplace tours, supported placements with partner employers, and ongoing mentoring.

Phase 4: Sustained Success

Continued support through mentoring, alumni networks, and problem-solving to ensure long-term stability.

Why Our Work Matters

The Current Crisis:

  • 327,950 households in England sought homelessness help in 2024 (5% increase)

  • 131,140 households in temporary accommodation (record numbers)

  • 4,667 people sleeping rough in Autumn 2024 (20% increase in one year)

  • 82% of homeless people have mental health diagnoses

  • People sleeping rough are 17 times more likely to be victims of violence

Behind these statistics are real people who want safety, stability, purpose, and a chance to move forward. With the right support, every story can be rewritten.

Our First Year Vision

Pilot Programme 2026

Our inaugural programme will work with 50 people across Hertfordshire, supporting their journey from striving to thriving. This carefully designed pilot allows us to provide intensive, personalised support whilst building the partnerships and infrastructure for future expansion.
